News:
Oxford
Mainstreet Inc. is at an exciting crossroads. A new board
of directors is helping to guide the vision of OMI. As a
result of the BID, a greater representation of business/property
owners will be on the board. With their invaluable experience,
we look forward to working together to continue the commitment
OMI has to the downtown businesses and the revitilization of downtown
Oxford.

Exciting Changes in Store
In
March, South Third Street from Market St to Hodgson Street will
be undergoing a streetscape project. New sidewalks, streetlights,
planters are coming to grace the downtown. These projects
just don't happen overnight and it is important that are merchants
continue to be the focus of the downtown. During construction,
our businesses need everyone's support. Come downtown this
summer - enjoy the Village Market every Tuesday at the corner
of Locust and Third Street, Enjoy Movies in the Park on the 3rd
Friday of the summer months. The changes will be well worth
the slight inconvenience!!
December - Buy
Locally
With
the holiday season upon us, please remember your local downtown
Oxford businesses. Not only have these business owners invested
in Oxford , but many of them also contribute by donating their
services, products and time to local organizations. Oxford Feed
and Lumber generously supports many groups including Little League,
youth hockey teams, churches, pony clubs, Boy Scout troops, to
name a few. They also pay Oxford School taxes that large box stores
do not contribute. George Bontz, owner of Oxford Seafood Company
regularly delivers soup to shut ins and the needy. He also holds
benefits for the Alzheimer's Association and the Breast Cancer
Society. Randy Teel of RNJ Plaques and Engraving offers discounts
to non-profit organizations and serves on many boards including
President of the Oxford Borough council. Dr. Fasick of Chiropractic
Services also donates throughout the year by hosting food drives,
community days and even gives up patient hours to participate
in Career Day at the Oxford Schools. These are just a few examples
of what your downtown business owners are doing for the Oxford
community.
Oxford
stands to gain in every way by supporting our independent businesses.
They provide us with essential goods and services, jobs, and continued
opportunities for citizen to own their own business here. They
are critical parts of Oxford 's social, cultural and economic
health. Supporting them is good for us personally and for our
community. Compared with chain stores, locally owned businesses
recycle a much larger share of their revenue back into the local
economy.
If
you haven't stopped by our downtown businesses, I encourage you
to do so. You will find delicious restaurants, unique retail stores
and services. Support your neighbors and Oxford by shopping downtown
this holiday season.

April
24 - Oxford 's Take Your Child To Work Day A Success
Oxford
's first Downtown Take Your Child to Work Day proved to be a fun
filled afternoon for the children of downtown employees. The children
of downtown employees were able to choose from a variety of tours
and activities hosted by downtown Oxford businesses. Tours and
activities included Union Fire Station, the old mill of Oxford
Feed and Lumber, a weaving demonstration at StillWater Fibers,
floral arranging at Bittersweet Florist, napkin folding at Peppercorns
Restaurant and Oxford Card and Gifts showed the children how the
Webkinz plush animals get to Oxford . The Promotions committee
of OMI brainstormed the idea to showcase the downtown merchants
and provide the children of downtown employees a “behind the scenes”
glance at different businesses. The orginal concept of Take Your
Child to Work Day began in 1993 to give girls an opportunity to
see what career possibilities were available to them. Shortly
thereafter, the boys were included in the program. The children
who attended Oxford 's program were able to gleen a little of
what it might be like to be a business owner and the merchants
were able to showcase their talents.
